Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about plant virus testing and our services
Testing & Services
What is qPCR testing?
Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR) is a molecular diagnostic technique that amplifies and detects viral DNA or RNA. It's the gold standard for plant virus detection because it's highly sensitive, specific, and can detect viruses before symptoms appear.
How long does testing take?
Cannabis and hemp testing takes 5-8 working days from sample receipt. All other crops, including grapevine, take up to 10 working days. Turnaround may vary by panel size.
What crops do you test?
We offer comprehensive testing for cannabis, hemp, pome fruit, stone fruit, and grapevines. Custom assay development is available for other crops.
Do you offer bulk or subscription testing?
Yes! Contact us for volume pricing and subscription options for nurseries and commercial growers with regular testing needs.
Sampling & Shipping
How do I collect samples?
Collect 2-3 grams of fresh leaf tissue per plant. Use clean tools, label each sample clearly, and keep samples cool. Detailed collection guides are provided with each testing kit and available in our Downloads section.
How should I store samples before shipping?
Keep samples cool (4-8°C) and ship within 24-48 hours of collection. Do not freeze unless specifically instructed. Use insulated packaging if shipping in hot weather.
What if samples arrive damaged?
We'll contact you immediately if samples are unsuitable for testing. In most cases, we can still extract viable material, but we may request re-sampling if necessary.
How many plants should I sample?
For individual plant certification, test each plant. For field surveys, sample 2-5% of your crop or follow industry guidelines for your specific crop type.
Results & Reports
How do I interpret my results?
Every report includes interpretation guidance and next-step recommendations. Our team is also available for post-diagnostic consultation via email or phone.
What does a positive result mean?
A positive result indicates the virus was detected in your sample. This doesn't always mean severe disease—some viruses have minimal impact. We provide context-specific recommendations in every report.
Can you provide export certification?
Yes! We provide accredited testing documentation suitable for phytosanitary certificates and export compliance. Request certification when placing your order.
What if I have questions about my report?
Contact us anytime—post-diagnostic support is included with every test. We're here to help you understand your results and take the right next steps.
